Ransomware is software that\u00a0 changes (encrypts)\u00a0 your\u00a0 files. This prevents you from opening or\u00a0 using them.\u00a0 The criminals spreading this menace are trying to make you to pay to get your\u00a0 own data back. The problem is that\u00a0 even if you do pay. you are very\u00a0 unlikely to recover it.<\/p>\n

Ransomware\u00a0 uses links\u00a0 embedded\u00a0 in fake\u00a0 invoices, documents and emails. Clicking the link causes the software to be uploaded and rin on your pc without your\u00a0 knowledge or\u00a0 permission.<\/p>\n

Once\u00a0 installed it searches external drives, networks and the cloud for your data and encrypts what it finds.<\/p>\n

How to protect yourself from this threat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

  1. Think about clicking links or\u00a0 attachments- even if you think you know where they are from.<\/li>\n
  2. Are you expecting\u00a0 the mail, text or whatever.?<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0 Can you confirm\u00a0 with the\u00a0 person who sent it, that it\u00a0 is genuine?<\/li>\n
  4. Ultimately, the only way of fully recovering from data\u00a0 loss\u00a0 is to USE YOUR CURRENT BACKUP to restore the data<\/li>\n
  5. Make sure you have a quality Anti Virus\u00a0 product installed. Check out reviews online- you may be surprised at how\u00a0 bad some of the wall known security products are at detecting problems<\/li>\n
